WE DID IT!
Thanks to the incredible generosity of 236 donors we raised $20,646! The Canadian Freedom Registry is now under development and will be launched in the fall--this would not have been possible without your support!
On behalf of Chab Dai I want to thank EVERYONE who donated/shared/liked/talked about the ride. You are amazing.
Stay tuned for a video of the ride coming soon!
Also, for those who donated more than $50, your perks are on the way!
THE NEW GOAL:
In only 16 days we raised $10,000 . Thanks to your generosity, the Freedom Registry will be created! This is amazing.
BUT WE'RE NOT DONE YET! We want to reach our new goal of $20 000!
Chab Dai has a HUGE vision to end human trafficking, and they need the resources to do that. When we reach $16 000 we will cover all the costs of the marketing for the Freedom Registry and the training expenses for staff. When we surpass this, the money will then go towards a part time salary for a Freedom Registry coordinator, who will give valuable support to the anti-human trafficking organizations that are featured in the registry.
So with let’s reach $20 000 and launch the Canadian Freedom Registry!
THE ORIGINAL GOAL:
To ride by bike from Montreal to Vancouver and raise $10,000 to create the Canadian Freedom Registry - a database that connects organizations that fight trafficking across Canada.
My name is Daniel and I am passionate about many things. Backcountry skiing, learning languages, and exploring to name only a few.
I am also passionate about ending slavery.
I learned about the reality of human trafficking while I was studying in Montreal. My degree in Geography and Arabic helped me understand that trafficking is a global issue.
But what really broke my heart was the knowledge that the majority of the victims of sex-trafficking in Montreal are from Quebec. Gang members will often “recruit” teenage girls into the sex-industry by pretending to be their boyfriend. Sex-trafficking is the most common form of human trafficking in Canada. We need to get past the taboo of prostitution and identify the ways that the sex-industry (legal) can trap people and lead to human trafficking (illegal).
One of the biggest challenges is that Canada is, well, very big. It is hard to communicate between organizations that are doing great work to fight human trafficking.
I was inspired to raise $10,000 for Chab Dai when I learned about their project called the Freedom Registry—a database of Canadian anti-human trafficking organizations. This will be a tool for everyone; from police officers to students.
All the money I raise through my CrowdFunding Campaign will go directly to Chab Dai so that the Freedom Registry can be created this summer. Without the funds, the Registry cannot be created and Canadians will be unaware of the good work being done to end trafficking. Victims of human trafficking will not know who to reach out to.
I need to reach my fundraising target of $10000 before I get to Vancouver on June 30. So please consider donating today to end slavery in Canada.
